You Say Tomato I say Salmonella. Nearly three weeks after an unprecedented outbreak of salmonella in the U.S. tomato supply the FDA is still vexed about the origin of the salmonella. Remarkably the problem lies in a system that works as follows. Tomatoes grown at Point A are shipped to Point B where they are repackaged and then shipped again to Point C where they are repackaged ad infinitum until it gets to your dinner table and where did it come from? Well your guess is as good as the FDA’s. Remarkably now the FDA believes that in fact it is not tomatoes at all but rather Jalepeno peppers that have sickened nearly a thousand Americans.
